Disposal of confidential documents is the responsibility of the waste generator.
UVa Recycling can not guarantee 100% confidentiality of material.
We DO NOT shred material, but will accept shredded paper (downgraded to office mix).
The material DRDR collects is placed into a locked container by University employees, baled at our contracted recycling processor, who sells the bales to an end user market, where it is added to a pulp slurry mix and completely destroyed. Although the chances are slim, there is an opportunity for the confidentiality of material disposed in this manner to be breeched.
The state has contracts in place for state agencies and University departments to purchase shredders.
The party generating confidential waste is responsible for insuring its confidentiality and providing the labor to shred the material.
Arrangements can be made for us to collect any shredded paper.
